Kathmandu Slot Game Review

General Info

The Kathmandu slot game is a creation from the team of people at Microgaming. They devised and launched this game into the market way back in March 2006, so it has been around for quite some time.

This has all the hallmarks of an older Microgaming slot game with a basic but simple to use interface where the reels take over the whole screen. Kathmandu can be played across all desktop, mobile and tablet devices.

Gameplay

The Kathmandu slot game takes us to the capital of Nepal where we prepare for excursions up sights such as Mount Everest and everything that part of the world has to offer as we go in search of our rewards. Kathmandu comes with five reels and nine paylines in total.

The traditional playing card icons are the lower paying ones in this slot. They are the usual 10, J, Q, K and A with the higher paying icons being the map of the country, an elephant, market goods and the sun coming up over the mountain. There are two Wilds to this game – the spinning wheel and the temple, while the Scatter comes in the form of the ornate bell.

Bonus Feature

Kathmandu may be an old slot machine but we still have a couple of features to get stuck into with the first of them coming in the form of the Free Spins feature. You get 15 of them should you land three, four or five of the bell Scatter icon across the reels. All the spins will come with a random multiplier between 1x and 5x so you can win nicely if you get the right one. Three or more Scatters will retrigger the feature too.

The other feature is the Gamble feature which is a general slot game regular. Here you have the chance to double or quadruple your win by correctly guessing the colour or suit of an unturned card. You double the win if you get the colour right and quadruple it if you pick the right suit. You can achieve five correct picks before the feature ends but be careful because if you get one wrong you lose your win.

RTP

The RTP rating for the Kathmandu slot game is 96.29%. This is nicely above the average and sits on the side of the player.

CasinoNZ Verdict

The Kathmandu slot has a slightly strange theme to it and the lack of modernised graphics always puts us off slightly, although it is a trend that the older Microgaming offerings don’t tend to have any stunning backgrounds behind the reels. We were pleased to see that Kathmandu came with a couple of features because a lot of the older designs lack that sort of thing, with them being a more modern input into the slot game world. The free spin option here can be lucrative with the right multiplier which is very much a positive. This is a solid, good all-round slot game that should certainly be tried.
