Big Time Gaming’s development of the Megaways game mechanic, which debuted in 2016, has had a huge impact on the online slots world, and now Rainbow Riches by Barcrest is the latest classic slots title to get the Megaways treatment.
Gameplay and visuals
The good news for fans of the original is that the Megaways version looks largely the same as the classic layout. The design is as bright and colourful as ever with a rainbow springing from a pot of gold forming the backdrop, creating a welcoming and entertaining visual impression.
The traditional card values stand for the lower value icons, while there are gemstones, including a diamond, representing the higher values, and the horseshoe symbol is the Wild. But as this is a Megaways title, the gameplay area features six reels, with seven symbols on each and a potential 117,649 paylines, along with an additional 4×1 reel above the main gameplay area. At 95% the RTP figure is respectable and this game can be classified as a medium-high volatility slot.
Bonuses and features
As with all Megaways games, Rainbow Riches includes the popular cascading wins feature. Each time you win, all of the winning icons are swapped for new symbols, and the feature is repeated each time you land new winning lines.
The base game also includes a player-friendly Super Gem Bonus option. In this case, when there is a Super Gem icon in the upper reel, all the higher value gems transform into a single gemstone at random, setting up more ways to win.
Some of the biggest wins are available with the Free Spins bonus feature. This is triggered when you land just four Scatter symbols, which gives you 12 free spins, while any extra Scatters along with the +1, +2 and +3 symbols on the upper reel will give you more free spins.
As with many of the Megaways titles, the key to landing the big jackpots is the multiplier feature. Each time you land a cascading win, the multiplier rises by one and doesn’t reset during the gameplay round, producing the potential for huge wins.
