Monopoly Megaways

The Megaways game mechanic, released by Big Time Gaming in 2016, has had a big impact on the slot gaming world and has been combined with many big-name brands to produce exciting new games.

Few brands are bigger in the gaming and entertainment worlds than Monopoly, the enduring board game launched in the 1930s, and Monopoly Megaways has proven to be extremely popular.

Gameplay and visuals

For those used to the Megaways title, this game has a familiar look. It offers six reels, with seven symbols on each, leading to a potential 117,649 paylines. It is payable from as little as $/€/£0.1 or as much as $/€/£20 per spin, and this volatile game has a solid RTP of 96.39%.

The symbols used include the familiar card values, which represent the lower payouts, but there are plenty of Monopoly-themed icons, including the top hat, racing car, battleship and dog, and at the top of the tree, is the capital letter ‘M’, a golden symbol worth x50 your stake. As is the case with most Megaways games, the symbols themselves don’t represent huge payouts. Instead, the game’s big wins are to be found courtesy of the Cascading Reels and other bonus features.

Bonuses and features

Cascading Reels are the key feature of the Megaways slot series and can once again be observed within Monopoly Megaways. Each time a winning combination is made, the winning icons disappear allowing space for new symbols to fill the gaps. This can produce even more wins, with the process repeating itself until no more winning combinations are possible.

The game also has a distinctive Monopoly-related bonus feature called Reel Adventures. This is where the character of ‘Mr Monopoly’ comes into play. When the feature is launched, Mr Monopoly travels around a virtual Monopoly board, landing on various squares, each of which will have an effect on the game and on your winning chances.

When Mr Monopoly lands on the Go space, your next spin will feature the maximum payline count, while the Chance and Community Chest spaces will send you to a street on the board, where up to 4 houses are added. If you manage to get 5 houses lined up on a street, you can start the Free Spins bonus. Initially, this is set at 8 free spins, but the more streets or railway stations with 5 houses on them that you own, the bigger the number of free spins.

During the Free Spin game, Mr Monopoly once again journeys around the board, and each square that he lands on will add different bonuses, including more free spins, more properties, and multipliers. At the end of the bonus game, the houses and properties reset.

CasinoNZ Verdict

Monopoly isn’t a new source of inspiration in the slots gaming world, but this is an entertaining take on the theme, offering a great range of bonuses and features and a base game with the popular Cascading Reels feature that makes it fun to play. Overall, we were impressed with how this game has been designed and executed, and it should have widespread appeal.

We love slots; if you like this title, why not try The Bermuda Mysteries, Irish Eyes, Deadworld or Gladiator of Rome.
