Black Mummy Game Review

To say that slots set in Ancient Egypt are common would probably be an understatement, but while most of them focus on the gold and jewels that mighty civilization accumulated over the years, Black Mummy gives us more of a horror angle than you may be used to. There’s very little that’s shiny in this tomb, and instead you’re more likely to encounter a creepy skeleton or a wrapped mummy, but is it worth braving these horrors for a chance at claiming the dead king’s gold? Let’s find out in our Black Mummy slot game review.

While Black Mummy doesn’t have the best graphics you’ll ever see, it certainly manages to set the scene, because in place of all the usual gold and jewels that pokies set in Egypt feature it’s all darkness and shadows. A huge full moon rises over the Pyramids in the background of the reels, and it’s always a dark and spooky night in this slot. The low value symbols are the standard 9 – A but swathed in bandages, while the high value symbols are more familiar and include King Tut, a gold ring, a jeweled scarab, and the Eye of Horus. The wild is much more sinister, the Black Mummy himself, who is really just a skeleton loosely wrapped in bandages. He even looms closer and bares his sharp teeth when you land him as part of a combo!

There isn’t a lot to get excited about in the main game, and by all accounts it’s a pretty traditional looking pokie, with five reels and three rows and five pay lines where you can bet up to £/€/$100 per spin. The Black Mummy wild is the highest paying symbol in the game, raking in 100x your stake when you land five of them on a line, while King Tut pays the second most by topping out at exactly half that, or 50x your stake for five. The RTP in Black Mummy is exactly average at 96%, so it’s a wonder that you can achieve payouts of this level when there are no bonus games at all. How does the slot achieve this? Let’s take a look.

While it’s true that there are no bonus round, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing special at all going on in Black Mummy, and the key to the extra payouts is the Black Mummy wild. He does the usual job of substituting for other symbols, but if you manage to land three or more of him as part of a combo then you also get awesome multipliers added to your win. This increases the more wilds you land, starting at 3x for three and maxing out at 5x for five. This means a full stack of five Black Mummy wilds can grant you 500x your stake, the maximum prize in this game.

CasinoNZ Verdict

Black Mummy brings a fun and creepy vibe to a genre that’s usually so full of shiny gold, which we enjoyed, and while the main game isn’t the most profitable, the potential of the wilds is far too great to ignore. The lack of bonus round might put off some players, but who can argue with the potential of £/€/$10,000 in just one spin?
