Aces & Faces Game Review

Aces & Faces is a game that takes us right back to the beginning of video slots, and even explains why we call slot machines pokies in the first place! Video poker was the first traditional game to get the digital treatment, becoming a fixture in casinos, pubs and bars all over the world, and in Australia and New Zealand they even lent their name to the entire concept of slot machines, which became known as poker machines or pokies. So were you right to take a trip down memory lane, or is the old fashioned pokie best left in the past? Let’s find out in our Aces & Faces slot game review.

Background

The concept behind the Aces & Faces slot machine is really simple, and luckily so is the layout of this game, so it’s pretty hard to go wrong. The background is dominated by the smiling faces of two kings from the face of a playing card, while the centre of the screen is taken up by the paytable and the bottom of the screen is where you’ll find your hand. It’s a very colourful looking game with a very busy screen, but not much depth beyond what you see in front of you. Having said that, everything you need is right in front of you, so you never have to go hunting for the instructions to work it out.

The aim of Aces & Faces is simple too: Try and land one of the hands listed in the paytable to win the associated prize. Instead of ‘spinning’ in this slot you just swap your existing hand for a random set of five cards, though you can choose to hold any number of the cards you have in place if you like them, in the hope that your next set of cards will match up with one of the hands in the pay table. It helps to know a little bit about Poker just so you know what the names of the hands mean, for example that a straight flush is five cards in sequential order in the same suit, but other than that you don’t even need any prior knowledge to play. So it’s an extremely simple game, and even better the returns are great! The RTP sits extremely high at between 98% and 99%, a figure you’re unlikely to beat in any modern slot!

There are no reels or rows as in a traditional slot, and the betting limit is pretty low at £/$/€5.00 per hand, though betting higher is the way to access that top RTP, so it’s often a good idea. Despite the low betting limit, the maximum win is 4000x your stake, so there are some great prizes up for grabs if you play your cards right!

Bonuses

Unfortunately the major downside of Aces & Faces is that there are no bonus rounds at all, so you’re fresh out of luck if you’re a free spins demon or a pick and win diva!

CasinoNZ Verdict

As simple as they come and loads of fun, Aces & Faces takes us right back to the beginning and what slots are supposed to be about: the rush of placing a wager and waiting to find out if you’ve won. Not a game for the high rollers or fans of complex modern slots, but a great way to while away the afternoon nonetheless!
